Ride Day 2
La Réole → Agen
Sun, Sep 13
Distance 49 mi
Hand-coded elevation 240 ft
Tonight: Agen
Agen’s place on the Garonne made it a market town long before the canal arrived. The rich farm land around it also gave the city its best-known export, the Agen prune, made from Ente plums. In the 19th century, the Canal de Garonne brought traffic. Its stone aqueduct, opened in 1849, carries the canal across the river on 23 arches. It turned the Garonne from a barrier on the route into part of the route.
